BRENNA DAVIDSON // DALLAS

As I was walking up, I couldn't help but think about how young I was when I last had my pictures done. I remember going into my senior portraits in Dallas still curious on where I would even be going to college. Fast forward to today, and I find myself in a similar position, wondering what my career will look like after graduation next May. I think both times I was pretty nervous considering they were big milestones in my life that a left a lot of room for uncertainty.

SUSAN GAMBARDELLA PORTRAITS // ATLANTA

My first “real job” was working behind the soda fountain bar at Howard Johnson’s off I-84 in Connecticut. Ironic since I spent 27 years at The Coca-Cola Company!  I was responsible for serving the truck drivers as they came off the highway and I learned how to make a variety of fantastic ice cream sundaes! But I also learned the lesson of really hard work, dealing with difficult people, and the importance of understanding and prioritizing customers’ needs and providing great customer experience.

VIRAL LOS ANGELES LESBIAN INDIAN WEDDING

Back in the summer of 2013, I had the honor of photographing this intimate and heartfelt wedding ceremony between Shannon and Seema at the SmogShoppe in Los Angeles. Little did I know at that time that it would spread around the world with the speed that only true love stories can. This viral lesbian Indian wedding not only captured widespread attention but also highlighted the significant importance of queer representation in society, particularly in the context of relationships during a period that preceded the historic passing of marriage equality in June 2015.

DYLAN HOLLINGSWORTH PORTRAITS // DALLAS, TX

The shot of him in mid conversation shows the gentle intensity of this human being. I am so glad I told my nerves to scam. I had been following Dylan and his photography work since Myspace days. His photographs always stuck with me so getting to not only sit down to have a conversation with him but to get the honor of taking his portrait is not lost on me. Thankful for this time in life. Thankful for the protest photographs and stories he shared almost 15 years ago…they were the catalyst for me wanting to do something meaningful with my work.

INK AND HAMMER PORTRAITS // DAYTON

This was my first ever “day in the life of” branding session. Let me set the scene…it’s 2013 in a city I had never spent time it. I am pretty sure I wandered into their shop our of sheer curiosity and said hey I would love to spend the day with you all and snap a few photos of you all just BEING together. You seem cool. Anytime I’ve done that I never regret my decision. Trust your gut and talk to people. My time with the crew over at Ink and Hammer Manufacturing Company in Dayton really left me wanting more. MORE of small businesses getting their hands dirty.

GENDER AFFIRMING SURGEON DALLAS

I like to think of myself as a collector of connections. It’s an accurate way to describe the joy I get from meeting new people, and it’s a lot less threatening than saying I’m a “collector of people.” Win/win, right? There’s just something about feeling the spark of something new and exciting the first few minutes after an introduction, and it was especially strong with Dany. He and his family had met me at a local coffeehouse to talk through some photography possibilities, and his passion for his work and the people he serves was evident within the first few minutes of conversation.
